The real reason people don’t step up to the plate
People who are willing to take responsibility are few and far between.
I’m not talking about people on whom responsibility has been thrust (parents, unwitting managers, lottery winners). I’m talking about the people who, when offered the opportunity to take responsibility or not, step up to the plate.
Those people are rare.
I laid down on the made bed at 1:30 in the afternoon — spent. Why am I so tired? I just want to nap. I thought about my kid who had started screaming about some monster or other at 2 am. Ah, that’s why I’m tired. It’s my kid’s fault.
I opened up today’s Wordle and then Instagram and then junk emails. I released myself of the responsibility of my exhaustion. Kid’s fault. You do what you can do with what you have. Then, I went back to my scrolling, eyes closing between brightly colored photos.
